Masala Khichdi

Ingredient Quantity
Basmati Rice Yellow Moong Dal Mixed Vegetables (carrots, peas, beans, potatoes, cauliflower) Onion (chopped) Tomato (chopped) Ginger-Garlic Paste Green Chilies (slit) Turmeric Powder Red Chili Powder Garam Masala Mustard Seeds Cumin Seeds Curry Leaves Ghee/Oil Water Salt To taste

Pointers:

  • Wash rice and moong dal together.
  • Heat ghee/oil in a pressure cooker or pot.
  • Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, and curry leaves.
  • Add onions, ginger-garlic paste, and green chilies. Sauté.
  • Add tomatoes and cook until soft.
  • Add vegetables, turmeric powder, red chili powder (if using), garam masala, and salt. Cook for a few minutes.
  • Add washed rice and dal, and water.
  • Pressure cook (or cook in a pot) until rice and dal are cooked and soft.
  • Mash slightly for a smoother texture.
  • Serve hot.
